I was finally graduating after being in school for four years.

I had dreamed of being an air conditioning expert since I saw dad go execute quality AC service on our aged system.

In my final year in college, I had discussed with my parents and they had agreed to rent me an apartment for a year as I looked for work or to start a business. I was looking forward to graduating because that would mean freedom. I would have my place and be responsible for myself. We got a great one that had all the amenities I wanted but I wish the owners knew more about HVAC because it lacked an efficient air purifier, especially being situated near a beautiful vineyard. Though I was busy studying for the finals, I squeezed in some time to shop for my household stuff. I had asked dad to help out with the air quality issue. He gathered information on what I needed to solve the issue including a new indoor air cleaning system as well as qualified HVAC technicians to do the fitting. I had received an invitation to launch a new company that had recently entered the market. I was excited about this new company because of the great and exciting approach it was bringing to the field. They were employing HVAC technicians with the basic certification and then training them in new and some of the old systems. They also had a good and wide variety of equipment that improved the lives of people. As I did my research, I discovered they were my local service providers. They had done the HVAC maintenance including ductwork cleaning and AC filter replacement at my neighbor’s house. It is smart to know the company you are promoting. They were even going to do their launch differently from how other companies had done. They would hold a raffle ticket competition and give the attendants some of the products and services. Some of the products and services that would be won included an indoor air cleaning system, a free AC care session as well a free air conditioning install. This exciting launch had drawn a big crowd and a lot of media attention which was good for the new company. I got to the event early, which was an accomplishment. The launch was successful and the company got to showcase their effective a/c care program and their skilled air conditioning experts. When it came to the winners of the prizes, I was excited to discover that I had won a free installation of my new air purifier. My plus one also received free quality AC service.

During most of my summer and spring breaks, I would go to the zoo not only to see the animals but to work there.

I continued working at the zoo until I graduated. Other than animals I noticed that I got interested in learning more about HVAC. Spring is here and as much as the weather is great for taking road trips and being outdoors, there is also a lot of pollen. This means that allergies flare up more regularly and respiratory issues increase. However, over the years, I have discovered a great way to keep my family and me comfortable all through spring. This is what I would call generational life hacks. Growing up, I would get sick during spring because of the pollen. I would almost always have a runny nose and a lot of sneezing. One time, my dad was at the local bar watching a football game when he got into a competition with a very successful air conditioning expert, who changed our family’s lives. The professional gave dad the solution to maintaining high indoor air quality all through spring and the rest of the year. According to how dad explained the following morning at breakfast was that we could install an air purifier to clean the air. We have been having problems with our air conditioning system lately and are going to call an HVAC specialist to come take a look at the system to see what the problem is.

• I hope he can fix it today because the weather is getting really hot and our little spare mini split air conditioner isn’t going to be able to cool down the whole house.

I noticed a few months ago that something was wrong with the central unit but didn’t have the time or the money to get it fixed. But now, with the weather getting really hot, we have to get it fixed or we will be in for a lot of sleepless nights. We have ceiling fans in all of the rooms but it doesn’t help much if the air conditioning is blowing warm air into all of the rooms. I think they can fix it in one day and am hoping we can get them to come out this afternoon to check it out and hopefully start working on it. Maybe the air conditioner just needs to be charged with coolant or something like that. I cleaned the filters in it recently and even cleaned the grill on the condenser but it still isn’t cooling properly. The local contractor near my house told us that they could come out the same day we call to check out the unit and repair it so I hope they can stick to their word. I’ll have a cup of coffee now and give them a jingle. Have a great day!

I’d been exercising in the afternoons while living overseas because it was just too cold in the mornings to do so.

But now I am back in the southeast US where it is really hot and I will need to do my exercising in the mornings to avoid heat exhaustion.

I think we are hitting the 90F mark at 10am, and with the humidity rising too, it just makes it too much for me to try and exercise any time thereafter. We have a big shady oak tree that is good to exercise under, providing natural climate control for me while I do my routine. I come into the house to cool off every thirty minutes or so and feel so good sitting in front of the air conditioning vent with my spray bottle of water misting me. I am older now and have been out of the states for over two years and can feel the difference in how my body is reacting to the change in climate. I am going to have to crawl up in the attic one of these days to seal the ductwork in a few spots and try and figure out why the heat pump stopped working last winter in my cousin’s house where I am staying. I will do this work in the early morning before the sun is even up so I avoid the furnace that the attic turns into in the afternoons. At least that big oak tree helps some with the sun, but it still heats up a lot in the attic.

I need to tune up my mom’s HVAC system this weekend as it has been a long time since she has had anyone out there with my dad being gone now for over a year. She lives in a big five bedroom five bathroom house and has been working on it to get it ready to sell next year so that she can downsize into a place that is more manageable for her. They have two huge commercial air conditioners because the place is so big and one HVAC unit wasn’t doing the job of cooling it down fast enough. I can’t imagine what their power bills are and this is one of the reasons that she is going to move into a smaller place. Dad was an HVAC system repairman back in the day and ended up running a big HVAC company until he died. He left us with a big pile of money once my mom is gone so I won’t have to really worry about saving for retirement, if I even live that long myself. I plan on working in the HVAC industry, even after getting this pile of money, because I like to feel productive and enjoy working on air conditioners and heaters like I have done since I was a young guy. I am also going to get on stage this weekend and do an open mic near my mom’s house, which is pretty exciting as I haven’t been on stage regularly for many years. I need to do some writing for my set first though.

I’ve been working like a dog the past few weeks painting my cousin’s house, and I finally finished it yesterday, so now I am giving myself a few days off to just relax.

I am going to clean her roof today, which will only take me a little over half an hour to do.

She has a shingle roof with mildew on it and I am going to spray it with chlorine today to get rid of the mildew and bring back the original color, which has been hidden by ugly black mildew stains. I need to cover the HVAC compressor out back because if chlorine drips on it the compressor can get rusty pretty quickly. I also need to be careful not to get chlorine on the plants under the roof or they will die. I told my cousin to turn off the smart thermostat so the chlorine fumes don’t get into the house while I am up there spraying or it will smell something awful. If you have a shingle roof with mildew it is a good idea to clean it like this because the mildew will grow into the shingles and eat away at the compounds that make up the shingles and eventually destroy the roof. Tomorrow I will clean her HEPA filter and ductwork so that we are ready for our house party this coming weekend with our friends. I am going to stay here for the weekend and then migrate over to my mom’s house for two weeks to do some work over there for her.

I bought one of those round robotic vacuum cleaners at the local business in my town, so while I am gone in the states, my flat overseas in Europe has clean floors when I return. I can control it with my phone from here in America, which is really cool, and my friends will empty the dustbin once a month for me. It has a HEPA filter in it so it pretty much catches all of the dust that is on the floors. I will be in the states for two months during this visit and I gave my friends the keys to my place over there so that they can check on it to make sure everything is okay there. I am running the HVAC system with my smart wifi thermostat, which I can also do with my phone here. Technology has come a long way and it really helps a lot when you are not going to be home for a while. They also make cat litter machines and pet feeding machines which you can control with your phone so you can be gone for extended amounts of time while your pet is home alone. Not only is my central heat and air conditioning smart phone ready but my lights in the flat can be turned on and off with the phone too. I like this because it looks like I am home when I am gone so that nobody tries to break in and live there or steal things. I’m really happy with the HVAC technology they have out now.

My husband is big on investing and reading books about it. He has read Millionaire next door, Rich Dad, Poor Dad and many others just like those. The moral of those stories is you need to invest your money into assets that accrue more money overtime. You can’t buy things you enjoy since it is just wasting your money and not making anymore down the road. I like having new things okay? I like remodeling my house and making it prettier. No, down the road it doesn’t add that much value to my house. Financially it would be smarter to take that money and buy a rental property or stocks. I am not going to though. I need to take care of our house since my husband won’t. It gets really annoying that he won’t put a dime into the house. The other day our HVAC unit turned up and quit. My husband wasn’t willing to pay for a new machine. He kept trying to fix it and then started looking at space heaters and window AC units as the solution. I tried to tell him overtime the electric bill would be obscene. It is better to just buy a good heating and cooling machine. He didn’t even want to split the cost with me at first! I just waited him out though. I knew he loves AC more than me. I said no window AC units and it took about a month before he finally split a central HVAC device with me. I shouldn’t have to buy all the important stuff in the house because he wants to invest.
