I have been to several different areas that I would have never visited if it wasn’t for my job. Last month, I was sent to a new city. I always use the same hotel chain because they are reliable. The rates are fair and the comfort is amazing. I walked into the hotel and paid for my stay then went to my room. The first thing I always did was to turn on the HVAC system and get some heat or air conditioning in the room. I then go out for my meal knowing that when I get back, the room will be comfortable. This time, I turned on the heating, setting the thermostat to seventy, and left for an hour. When I got back, it was so hot in the room that I couldn’t catch my breath. The heater was still running and I didn’t know what to do. I tried to unplug the HVAC system, but it wasn’t working. I called the front desk, who told me to unplug the HVAC unit. I told them I couldn’t get to the plug. When the HVAC tech showed up, he told me that you can’t just unplug the HVAC units. He said that I should request another room. I called the front desk and asked them to change me to another room. They switched me to a different room but there were problems with this HVAC system too. All I got was cold air from the air vents. I asked for my money back and called another hotel in the area. I made sure to ask about the HVAC system before I made the reservation.

My husband wanted me to help him decide what kind of heating and air conditioning we were going to use.

I told him that our furnace was perfect for what we had. We already had the ductwork in place, and it was in good condition. I couldn’t understand why we would have any other type of heating system. As far as the air conditioning goes, there were window air conditioning units in the house. I wasn’t sure if we should just buy a few new air conditioning units and let it go at that. It was much cheaper to purchase a couple more air conditioning units than to purchase a central air conditioning unit. I wasn’t going to make a decision that my husband wasn’t going to agree with. He would blame me if it cost more than what he wanted to spend. We bought the house in this condition, knowing we needed a new HVAC system. In all reality, the HVAC system was the only problem with the house. I asked him if he was willing to sit down and write out all the pros and cons for window air conditioners or a central air conditioning unit. The first thing on the list was how much cheaper it would be to purchase the window AC unit. The second thing on the list was that the window air conditioner didn’t supply air conditioning to every part of the house. Before we were done with the list, my husband realized that central air conditioning was going to be much more efficient than window air conditioners.

I happen to live in a very cold part of our country. We have lakes all around us that are frozen from November through April. The temperatures are below freezing and nearer to zero during that time. We have a very short summer and most people in our area don’t even have air conditioning. On the contrary, everyone has an excellent heating system and most of us actually have two. We all rely on our heating systems not just for warmth, but to keep us safe. A person could die of hypothermia before anyone realized their heat had gone out. I have a back up fireplace, but I still make sure my furnace is running well. I have a generator that starts running as soon as the power goes out, and there is barely any change. I make sure to have my furnace maintenance done twice a year. The HVAC technician doesn’t just clean the system, but he does a thorough inspection. He checks all of the components to make sure everything is in good repair. If there is a problem, they replace the part or repair it while they are there. I was worried about the cost of all the maintenance and repairs. Then I thought about the cost of needing to have repairs done during a snowstorm or deep freeze. I didn’t like the idea of going without the furnace at that time, or what emergency repairs cost. The cost of all of this is much more than what the cost of maintenance is. I would gladly lay out the money for HVAC maintenance and know that I am safe.

When we got married, my husband and I decided we were going to spend our honeymoon travelling around the United States. We left the north and headed south to warmer weather, where we were going to spend most of our travelling. I couldn’t believe what a workout our air conditioning unit was getting. Unlike at home where we could open the car windows, we needed to use air conditioning or we would suffocate. We had the air conditioning set at high, but it wasn’t working as well as it should. We knew that it was soon going to stop working. We started looking for a garage that had HvAC technicians on duty. I couldn’t believe when we finally found a garage that had a specialist. We pulled into the garage and told them about the HVAC systems. We had to wait about an hour before we were pulled into a stall. The HVAC tech took one look at the air conditioning unit and told us we needed a new condenser. He didn’t know if he could find the right part, but he was going to try. Four hours later, he told us he was able to repair the air conditioning. Before we pulled out he gave us a stern look. He said that if we knew we were going to be travelling through the south, we should have had the AC unit checked out before leaving. He told us that not all garages were as honest as theirs. We thanked him for repairing the air conditioning unit and for his advice. We weren’t going to take any more chances with our HVAC system or our car.

I care about catching up with the latest news on the web when I have some free time, normally I just browse through the latest news to see what’s interesting! In particular, I go over activities, education and home improvement stories.

Last week, this one story I came across under home improvement was baffling to say the least.

It wasn’t much about the nature of the story but rather, the person involved. Carl is quite a reserved introvert, you can never be sure what’s going on through his mind, he lives with his family 2 gates away from us. This afternoon the police were at his door, taking him away. Everyone wondered what’s going on, until his work manager explained it to a few neighbours, then apparently, there was a search warrant issued for his arrest after he stole new heating units from his manager. It wasn’t a one time thing, he has been carrying away heating components and cooling techs for a while. He was found to have stolen a heater, heating system, heat pump, dual fuel plan parts, space oil oil furnaces and zoned heating and A/C plan repair parts. The transition phase between his old manager and the current one left a loophole that he exploited together with his colleague. He was a field specialist performing duct sealing, servicing radiant floors, and A/C plan in general. His arrest inspired me to learn more about air conditioners and understand what a heating and cooling contractor does; Since his arrest, he has not been home in ages, especially since his story appeared in the local news. His family eventually moved out of the neighbourhood out of embarrassment.
