I don’t understand the appeal of hiking into the woods and suffering without current amenities

Last month, my family spent a month camping in the woods. Every one of us set up tents near a lake and slept in sleeping bags. Along with the foods and popcorn we brought with us, we caught fish and cooked them over an open flame. During the afternoon, we swam in the lake, hiked the trails and roasted marshmallows over the campfire. I guess my fiance and many kids had a good time. Although I pretended to be glad with our camping trip, I truly hated it. It was the middle of July. During the afternoon, the temperature frequently climbed into the mid nineties. It only dropped down to eighty degrees at night. The humidity was horrendous… Without a/c, I was warm, hot and irritated all the time. With no access to running water, I had to bathe in the lake. The water was chilly cold, and I never felt completely clean. Every one of us dealt with mosquitoes, ants, flies and bees, then sleeping on the ground isn’t as comfortable as my queen sized bed and fluffy pillows. Cooking raw fish over a campfire isn’t as convenient as my gas oven, microwave and refrigerator full of options. I had to boil water in a pot to make a cup of coffee. I just wanted to go apartment and set the thermostat to a comfortable temperature. I missed the central a/c that I’m still making yearly payments on. I don’t understand the appeal of hiking into the woods and suffering without current amenities. I labor hard to be able to afford things savor a smart thermostat, dehumidifier, a/c, surround sound and a dishwasher. I’m not gleeful applying bug spray to go to bed at night.

Like most of us, the pandemic situation has made myself and others nerve wracked constantly over mine plus my family’s health. Of course, similar to most other people, the two of us are doing whatever the two of us can to avoid the virus or at least stop the spread as much as possible. Now, I know that our house has the best indoor air quality plus the heating, ventilation and A/C combo I have in site works actively to mitigate the presence of the virus.
