Our school does not have a central air conditioner, and it definitely makes life a lot more difficult.
There is no way that I am going to be comfortable in this environment unless the school decides to purchase an actual central air conditioner.
I volunteered to teach at a school in a foreign country. This school is located in a very poor country with a very hot climate. Since the school is very poor, they had to figure out how they were going to spend their money in a wise manner. Thankfully, they decided that curriculum would be the most important aspect of empowering their children for the future. Unfortunately, this meant that the school was never going to be able to afford a central air conditioner. They reasoned that the school did not need a central air conditioner since most of the students did not have a central air conditioner. Living without a central air conditioner was a way of life for them, so nobody thought to miss the central air conditioner. However, I live in the United States, and I have always had a central air conditioner in my house. I am used to having a comfortable environment, so living without a central air conditioner in a hot climate was a huge problem for me. It has definitely been an adjustment for me, and I have finally learned to not be miserable. Still, I will be happy to move back home where I have a central air conditioner. Have you ever lived or worked in a place that does not have a central air conditioner.
