Saving on HVAC cost by actually replacing the HVAC

As far as I know, if you’re doing it honestly, there is nothing wrong with saving a bunch of money. I know this because I could be considered someone who might be a really cheap human being. I’d rather not spend money if I don’t have to. Fortunately, I have a partner in crime in my lovely wife. We love doing deep discount shopping or finding a perfect gem of an item at a garage sale. Nothing is off limits to us. We are the same way when it comes to household expenses like the HVAC utility costs. We live somewhere that can get ridiculously hot during the summer. There really isn’t much other option than to put the HVAC cooling on. However, the utility bill from all that cooling has been a real pain in the past. We have done a number of things in order to reduce the costs. And we are vigilant about making sure the indoor HVAC setting is never lower than 15 degrees of the outside temperature. We also make sure that drapes are pulled to reduce direct sunlight heating as well. Then it just dawned on us that maybe we should simply replace the HVAC unit. Sort of an addition by subtraction sort of thing. Our old HVAC was still running but it had like a single digit SEER rating. No wonder it sucked up so much energy. We now have an HVAC unit with a SEER rating in the 20’s and the HVAC utility savings are incredible. We are actually in a situation where the HVAC savings are offsetting the cost of the new HVAC.
