Zoned heating and cooling for a large house

My lake house is over three thoUSAnd square feet and divided into a lot of smaller rooms.

  • I live in a section of the country where the weather is overheated and overly humid in the Summer and harshly freezing and snowy in the winter.

Attempting to keep a comfortable indoor temperature all year round is challenging and costly. We need both a gas furnace and an air conditioner and the several units run most of the time. The HVAC duct is installed behind the walls and ceilings and connects to several vents located in every room. For the first few years we lived in the house, we had 1 temperature control located in the dining room. To make variations to the setting, we had to manually adjust the dial. Any raising or lowering of the temperature affected every room in the house. While the dining room was consistently perfectly comfortable, there were particular areas that tended to assume overheated and others were cold. We were also heating and cooling quite a few unoccupied rooms. The gas furnace and air conditioner were toiling way harder than necessary. Our yearly energy costs were way too high. Hoping to reduce costs and lessen wear and tear on the heating and cooling equipment, I looked into the update to zoned control. The cost of it wasn’t nearly as high as I expected. The replacement process was far less involved than I anticipated. I hired a local Heating and Air Conditioning business who implemented a series of valves into the duct plan to direct the conditioned air to unique rooms. He added separate temperature controls into each room. These smart temperature controls allow access through an app on my smartphone. I’m able to customize temperature settings with a tap of my finger.
