I certainly hope that we will perhaps get on the other side of this pandemic.

It seems like we have gotten close but there are just too many people not willing to be vaccinated. So, looks like this might be something we deal with for a long time in one form or another. Having been vaccinated, I’m sure glad to not be so locked down inside the air conditioning of my home. I worked for over a year in a part of my house that just didn’t get that great HVAC cooling as it got direct sunlight all day long. But I also learned something about the HVAC due to the pandemic that I probably wouldn’t have otherwise. What I found out was just how important quality indoor air is to our health. And it’s particularly important to our immune health which is just how I learned about it. I also learned that the HVAC unit could play a role in providing superior indoor air quality. The information was so compelling that I even called the HVAC company. They sent out and HVAC technician who then installed a whole home air purification system in our HVAC equipment. This air purifier works by blasting all the air coming from the HVAC return with intense UV light. This then destroys the DNA of all airborne contaminants. And that stops the respiratory system from being under constant attack which allows the immune system to strengthen. So the pandemic actually helped me improve my health with the help of an air purifier and my HVAC unit.

When I first learned about smart thermostats from my friend, I was really excited to get one.

• I didn’t want just any cheap one though, I wanted one of the best kind with the touchscreen and advanced features like connecting the smart thermostat to my Alexa device.

I thought it would be so cool to be able to tell Alexa to adjust my temperature control settings and she would say, “I’m on it.” I would never have to go to the actual thermostat, but the touchscreen was really cool regardless. Well, I ended up downloading the smart app on my phone and I was amazed that I could make so many changes. I could program the thermostat or put it on learning mode so it would learn my preferred settings. The smart thermostat even tells me the weather forecast and makes adjustments based on what the weather is like outdoors. I have been enjoying my new thermostat immensely since I installed it. The installation was ridiculously easy and the energy savings are unbelievable. I actually didn’t realize that I would save so much money on my energy bills, but they advertise that fact directly on the box. I really love that Alexa hooks up to my thermostat, I just hope Alexa never mishears me and decides to roast me through the night instead of cranking up the A/C system. I know there are glitches in computer systems naturally and I’m sure that even Alexa messes up from time to time. I guess if that ever happens, I’ll just adjust the temperature control settings manually.

Some of my most pleasant memories are spending time with family at different camping places. I think the thing I enjoyed the most was when we would make a big fire in the fireplace and relax while cooking dinner and roasting marshmallows. The fireplace was relaxing with the comfort of the warming flames, and it was fun just talking with everybody. It was especially fun when people would start telling spooky stories. Those were always good times. I never had any nightmares or anything, but I had some family members with creative ghost stories. I always kept a portable heating system too because I never liked to be overly chilly during the night. I mean all I had was this small tent with thin walls. It was difficult to keep the cold air out of your tent through the night, but the heater that I had always worked well through the years. Eventually, I had a family of my own and we started going camping when the kids were old enough. We have had a lot of fun as well and I was able to get my own children into enjoying the fireplace just like I did when I was young. My son now loves to build the fire in the fireplace and I let him do his thing, so long as he is careful and remembers his fire safety. I think that eventually, I may even want to have a fireplace installed back at home, it would remind me of all my camping experiences I think. I think it would also make the heating bills cheaper in the winter months.

For a long time, I have been thinking about ways to put less pollution into the environment.

Believe it or not, this is something that makes me feel depressed, the fact that so many people don’t care about the environment.

Of course, I would be a hypocrite if I told people to do certain things like drive a hybrid car if I didn’t do the same. I’ll admit, I have driven a gas guzzler in the past, but that’s because that was the first car that my parents got for me when I first got my driver’s license. The A/C system didn’t even work in that car though, and I didn’t care for it much. My next car was actually a hybrid and I have been driving that around for a long time now. I actually am planning to go for an all-electric vehicle in the near future. In the meantime, I have been saving up for a geothermal HVAC system. With a geo heat pump, I will be able to utilize the stable temperatures below the surface of the ground and heat my home with no issues in the winter no matter how cold it gets. I also won’t have any issues with cooling the house either. As long as the ductwork remains in great shape, I can’t go wrong with the geothermal HVAC system. This system costs a great deal of money to have installed, but honestly with the energy savings and saving the environment at the same time, it’s the perfect investment to go for to have excellent comfort at home!

When my sister got married, I was happy for her.

I wanted to be able to bond with my new brother-in-law and so I went to talk to him.

We talked about a lot of things and then I learned that he installs HVAC systems for a living. He said he was not an official HVAC professional, but he definitely knew what he was doing. He explained he only installs one type of HVAC and that’s the ductless mini split. He even goes for the DIY version which doesn’t require professionals for installation as the refrigerant is pre-compressed in the system. So I ended up making arrangements for him to handle the installation. I was very nervous when he was drilling holes through my wall, but he insisted he had the perfect set up in mind for my quad zone system. I had to admit, when he was done, the installation looked very professional. Before I had him do the job though, I had to sign a shady waiver that stated that I was aware that I would lose my warranty due to having a non-professional installing the HVAC, but he actually did a great job. I asked him why he never went for his HVAC certification, because he was really good at this work. He said it was something he never felt that he needed, plus he simply wasn’t interested in installing or working on other kinds of HVAC systems. I thought that was a shame because I’m sure he could easily help a lot more people with his skills.

Well, sure enough someone stole the unit from my window, and I caught the guy on camera

I’ve always been suspicious of my neighbor because he just gave me a feeling like he couldn’t be trusted. I wanted to be nice, but he never wanted to talk to me, and would just give me a look and walk away even if I tried waving at him. Eventually I quit waving at him and then before I knew it, my window A/C was missing from my bedroom window. I had no idea who could have stolen my window A/C unit but then another neighbor from across the street claimed he saw my neighbor steal the window A/C unit. He said he was wearing a dark hoodie and it was hard to see his face, but he was pretty sure it was my neighbor. I confronted the neighbor and said I had a witness, but he said I was mistaken, and then he slammed the door in my face. I realized that I couldn’t prove that he stole my window A/C unit. Then I decided to place a security camera up. It was kind of a discreet camera and that was the point, I didn’t want the next person who stole my window A/C unit to realize they were being recorded. I had a new window A/C unit hooked up, a real nice one with a built in smart thermostat. The cool thing about that is that even if my unit was stolen again, I would be able to track it via the thermostat, so long as it was plugged in. Well, sure enough someone stole the unit from my window, and I caught the guy on camera. It actually was my neighbor and I was so thankful when I was able to show the evidence to the police and they were able to recover my property from my neighbor’s house. I pressed charges and he went to jail.

When we got our son a journal for his birthday, he didn’t seem to be so impressed at first.

Of course, this was a handcrafted leather journal that was easily refillable so that it could be used for the indefinite future.

It would help him stay organized with his thoughts and he could work on drawings and things like that. Well, he turned out to love that leather journal more than anything. He did get a dirtbike too, but he still prefers that journal. He always takes it with him to places and he’s always writing or drawing something. That was a long time ago and even to this day, he still has that journal all the time. He even thanked us again for getting him such a thoughtful gift before he knew how important it would be. He said it was so much easier to stay on top of things and keep his head organized. He says he likes to use it for even simple reminders like when to get his HVAC system tune-ups and when to change his air filters. He writes down the schedules for his children with their sports, dancing classes, and martial arts. He actually ended up getting his own son a really nice journal like the one he uses. It’s kind of crazy because his son acted the way way when he first got his journal. I think his life might play out fairly similar to his father’s. I think he’s going to have an inseparable connection with that journal too and he will be able to remain organized through the years.

While I felt very accomplished after installing a new ductless mini split, I was shocked when I was reading through the owner’s manual.

While it was good that the warranty wasn’t void just because I installed the HVAC, my warranty was automatically cut in half.

I only got 5 years for parts and labor and I would have had 10 years if I had an HVAC professional handle the installation. I didn’t really see what the big deal was, the installation was easy enough. I guess they have to cover themselves if the homeowner installs the system incorrectly or doesn’t take proper care of it. Well, I have carefully read all the instructions for maintenance and care, and I am going to take fantastic care of my HVAC system. Even if they won’t cover me with any issues after 5 years, I bet I can make my HVAC system last a good 20 years or so. At least that’s what I have been hearing. Even the HVAC professionals say these systems are great and last a long time with minimal maintenance and care. Something that I really love about the ductless mini split is the fact that you don’t have to change the air filters very often. They are washable air filters, and you simply have to clean them once per month. They are very simple to clean and this system saves me a small fortune not only in energy savings, but the money I save by not having to buy a ton of disposable air filters. It really is the perfect type of HVAC system to have.

I honestly had no idea what to get for my sister when she was having a baby. My wife wanted to get her a bunch of towels and rags, but I thought she should have something better than that. We both ended up getting her something completely different. I decided to get my sister a UV air purifier because I remembered how she always struggled with severe allergies.
