I have been looking into getting heated flooring for my home. The pros are just too vast to ignore, and first, since the furnace is either with hot water or electric, there is no air being blown. That means the sound of the Heating and Air Conditioning system turning off and blowing out of the vents no longer happens. It is a quiet system. Additionally, there is no air that is polluted and ruining your air conditions. No ductwork is needed to transfer the heat and that means no ductwork sealing appointments. Another benefit is that with radiant heating, all the floor is evenly heated. With forced air systems it is easy to have hot and cold spots. The heat naturally rises and gets wasted on the ceiling too. The electric or hot water stays right at the flooring level and heats every stone that it is installed into, however since the heat stays right at your flooring level, most people lower their temperature controls since they naturally recognize warmer. The heat is just that much better. Radiant heat warms objects touching it too… Your couch, chairs and bed will all recognize heated as a result. Have young children crawling around or pets? They will prefer this furnace too. I have looked into the cost of this heating update and it is surprisingly adequate compared to most gas furnaces I am used to. The lifespan is around 10-15 years as well. That is quite a chunk of time for that system. The only con is the replacement is quite invasive and the radiant flooring does build up the floor and add weight to the house.
