I advocate for safety during winter to avoid heating equipment accidents

There have been increasing heater related incidents during winter, and that was worrying me.

  • People seem not to be informed enough about the dangers of mishandling heating equipment in their homes during winter.

Whenever winter approaches, I take time to inform people about the need to be extra vigilant when using keeping warm. I have a podcast that has over 10,000 subscribers covering 3 states. I took it a personal responsibility to share my knowledge and experience on heating after repeatedly reading about and hearing people lose property or lives because of heat related accidents during winter. My daughter used to sleep with a space heater in her room and this scared me. When I shared my story with a close colleague, I realized several families face such heating needs in their homes when the coldest winters arrive. Instead of fireplaces, many homes rely on a furnace powered by a dual fuel system or heated floors. For those who can’t afford new heating units, they end servicing their old air conditioning systems beyond their life spans, increasing the threat of a failed heat pump or poor duct sealing work. What most people need are zoned HVAC systems and educating people on more about air conditioning safety and use. The threat however, is not just a winter issue because cooling corporations also have their fair share of threats from cooling techs. I hope that with increasing subscriber base on my podcast, my following will learn and spread the word to others who need to hear about safety. I am glad the local county has stepped in to give me more airtime and use my platform to put weight on the seriousness of this matter.
