I got to go to the fishing tournament after all

There was a fishing tournament last weekend and I really wanted to enter the tournament.

I told my boss a couple of weeks ago about the Anglers convention.

He promised to give me the day off so I could go. When the schedule for HVAC repair technicians came out at the beginning of the week, my name was on the schedule for Saturday. I politely reminded my boss that I requested that day off. He absolutely forgot that I made the request and he had me scheduled to help with a commercial HVAC installation job. He told me that he would find someone else to work their shift, but the schedule remained the same throughout the week. On Friday morning I asked the boss if he found someone to work on Saturday. He had not found anyone, so I was going to work the job and cancel the tournament. I didn’t have much chance of winning anyways and I figured the boss gave me a $100 bill which was the cost of my tournament entry fee. I told the boss on Friday afternoon not to worry about the job. I would be there bright and early on Saturday. That’s when he informed me that he already found someone to take care of the job. He thanked me for being a team player and then he reached into his pocket and gave me $45. He told me to put that towards my entry fee and consider it a bonus. I have to admit that his act of generosity really surprised me.
