Last month I went to visit my mom and I was really surprised by the condition of the house.
I thought my mom was doing well on her own, but I don’t think that is actually true.
The house was very cold and the whole place felt frozen when I arrived. My mom told me that the furnace wasn’t working. When I asked my mom how long the furnace problems had been occurring, she did not have a good answer for me. I contacted a repair service and I waited at my mom’s house until they fixed the furnace. The temperature on the thermostat was 58 degrees when I arrived and it was 72 degrees when I left my mom’s house. About a week later, I went back to my mom’s house and I noticed that most of the food that was in the refrigerator was still there. Now I am really starting to worry that my mom might not be able to take care of herself anymore. I want to find the right time to talk to my mom, but I’m not sure there is ever a right time to tell your parents that you don’t think they can take care of themselves anymore. That is a conversation I’m not looking forward to having with my mom, but I know it is a conversation that we need to have soon. I have a couple of ideas and I am hoping that my mom will find one of them suitable. I would honestly prefer that she moved to the house where my wife and I live, but I am open to several different suggestions as long as she isn’t living alone anymore.
