I like to wake up early when it is still dark and quiet in my town.
I go to bed by 10pm usually so I am up most mornings by 6am.
I used to hate waking up early when I was a kid and couldn’t imagine wanting to get out of bed without an alarm clock or the wet towel treatment my stepdad would do. If we weren’t up when we should have been he would get a towel and rinse it with cold water then pull back our blanket and throw it on our stomach. It woke us up! He could have just turned on the air conditioner and done it more gradually but this way worked much faster. Kids just need more sleep than adults and maybe he was just jealous that we were able to sleep till noon if not awoken. We had a cool wood burning fireplace in that house and we would help him chop the wood and carry it in, which for me was kind of a fun process and good exercise. I wish I bought that beach house when I had the chance in 1996 when my mom put it up for sale for $140K because today it is worth 1.5 million dollars now. I can’t remember if we had central heat and air in the place when we had it built but I am sure that it is in there now. I can’t believe how much real estate has gone up over the past twenty five years or so. If I only knew then.
