I was devastated when our gas heating system broke down during a excruciating blizzard; I called the HVAC contractor for help, but they said it would take various days! They commanded that if possible, we drive to a relative’s modern home and if not try to use a backup heating system and use lots of blankets to keep warm, however well, we didn’t have any portable heating systems, but we did have our fireplace that we didn’t use especially often.
We had a satisfactory stack of firewood ready to go, however I wasn’t sure if I could make all the wood last for a few days of continuous feeding into the fireplace, still, it was the only thing we could do, it wasn’t love we had another stadium we could go, however even if we did want to go anywhere though, the roads were in bad shape for driving.
The other angry thing when I had the fireplace going was that I had to go out a bunch of times to shovel snow. I just prayed that the snow would let up. We struggled really badly the first evening however I was glad when everything cleared up and the sun entirely came out. Some of the snow was able to melt, but it was still pretty frigid outside. We rationed the wood carefully to make it last as long as possible. We were finally down to our last few pieces of firewood when the HVAC professionals finally came out. I was so thankful when they called us to let us think they were on the way. I tell you what, in the future I’m going to make sure to have way more firewood just in case we need it.
