I view myself as a pretty easy person to get along with.
My approach to life is to live and let live.
I don’t sit in judgement over how people decide to live their lives. As long as you aren’t hurting anyone, do what makes you happy. That said, I tend to be what would be considered a very normal guy. I go to work, provide for my family and enjoy a few outside interests. And I like to kick back in the HVAC every once in a while and enjoy a beer. These are sort of special times for me as I don’t indulge in this ritual all too often. So, it was with some frustration that I had to answer the door one evening while I was enjoying one of these kick back in the HVAC moments. To make matters worse, I opened the door to a man who was quite agitated. This was the compliance officer with our HOA. I understand the basic need for an HOA. Property values are important and making sure they are protected is equally important. However, I think that’s as far as it goes. If someone isn’t doing something egregious with their own property, the HOA should stay out of it. Well not our HOA. They take every opportunity to flex their muscles. So now I had this angry man on my front stoop because my kid had inadvertently cut a few inches too much off the hedge. The HVAC cabinet was just barely showing and the HOA guy was really upset about it. It was tough not to just slam the door in his face. I told him the hedge would grow back in a month and I’ll trim it from now on.
