Originally when I first moved out, I told my parents that I didn’t need their help. I was surprised when they said okay and let me do my own thing. I went to rent my own apartment and everything. The only place I could afford was this run down place, but at least it didn’t have any rats or roaches. I made sure of that before signing the lease. The apartment also came with both a heating and cooling system which I thought was great. I found that so long as I kept changing the air filters, the air quality was good in my place. The thing that bothered me though was the costly energy bills. Evidently, this old HVAC system was not very energy efficient but there was nothing I could really do about that, or so I thought at first. I asked my parents if they could at least give me some energy saving tips so I wasn’t paying a small fortune on my energy bills. I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to afford my rent with such high energy costs. Both of my parents had some good energy saving tips for me. My father told me it was good to cook out on the grill often. He said I shouldn’t bother wasting my money eating out all the time, I could make better food at home and save money. My mother said I should have the HVAC system tuned up because it would work more efficiently and lower the energy bills. I couldn’t believe it, they both were right. My energy bills lowered quite a bit when I cooked outdoors and got a professional tune-up on the cooling system.
