I never once thought I’d work in the HVAC industry. Since I was a kid, I wanted to work in the circus. My parents took me to the circus and carnival all my life since it was the best and only entertainment in our area. I wanted to be in charge of the lions since it seemed like such a cool job. But, all those childhood fantasies were crushed when the circus business started to crumble. In high school, I knew I had to grow up and choose something different to do with my life. I’ve never fancied going to college, plus my parents didn’t have the money for it. Instead, I chose to go to HVAC school and become an AC repair person like my uncle. At that time he was doing so great and ran his own AC business. He always encouraged me to come and intern for him during summer. I earned a decent amount of money as a teen. When I got my HVAC technician certification, I went to work for my uncle. My first job was with a team of HVAC technicians to install radiant floor heating. This family had bought a lovely home but didn’t want to deal with the cold winters in the area without proper heating. They had an option of a furnace system or radiant floor heating. Though it’s a bit costly, they chose radiant floor heating since it’s among the best ways to keep a house warm throughout the long winter months. The job was a great learning experience for me since my uncle didn’t mind putting me in the middle of the action.
