Bike riding is a great workout

Cycling is a great way to work my legs and core and get my heart pumping

My husband and I grew up, raised our kids and spent the first fifty years of our lives in the northeastern part of the country. We got tired of the sub zero temperatures, endless snow accumulation and extremely lengthy winters. We were frustrated with being trapped inside for the majority of the year, reliant on the furnace and wishing our lives away. A little over three years ago, we moved further south. We bought a much smaller house in a location where it never snows. The weather is moderate to hot, and the sun shines nearly every day. For our first Christmas in the new house, my husband bought me a bicycle. It’s a cruiser that allows me to ride on pavement or off-road. I have a sizable basket that allows me to run errands and carry a few groceries. I added a holster on the handlebars for my phone, mount for my water bottle and a wireless speaker. I listen to music while I ride and enjoy a wonderful workout. I make it a point to exercise every day. While I sometimes run, jump rope or lift weights, pedaling my bike is my favorite. I love getting outside and enjoying the fresh air, sunshine and scenery. There’s no impact on my joints and I can increase the effort by switching to a higher gear or pedaling faster. I’m fortunate to have a paved bike path in close proximity to my house that travels 60 miles in either direction. Cycling is a great way to work my legs and core and get my heart pumping. Plus, it puts me in a great mood. At the end of the workout, I always feel happy, accomplished and energized.
